Leave the pitchforks and torches at home….this time Talbert Black, June 6, 2011June 18, 2011 The South Carolina’s Educational Opportunity Act, H.3407, was defeated in the SC House of Representatives by a vote of 60 – 59. Six Spartanburg County Republicans joined forty-four Democrats to kill the bill. Grass roots supporters of school choice, headed up by Karen Martin, are launching a voter awareness effort to canvas Spartanburg county to make sure the voters know the facts so they can hold their representatives accountable for their votes. Don’t you think a parent knows what kind of education is best for their child? If you support a parent’s right to choose the best education for their child, then come join the fun. We need as many people as possible to help canvass Spartanburg county with Voter Education flyers regarding the vote to kill H3407. We will need to cover about 3,000 houses each weekend for the next three weekends. Be at the empty drugstore parking lot at 101 Locust Street, Lyman, SC at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday June 11. We’ll team up and head out from there. The Spartanburg Six: Rita Allison Doug Brannon Derham Cole Mike Forrester Steve Parker Eddie Tallon … joined 44 Obama Democrats to defeat the SC School Choice bill for our children. They voted in defiance of the Republican Platform which states: “Parents should be able to decide the learning environment that is best for their child. We support choice in education for all families, especially those with children trapped in dangerous and failing schools, whether through charter schools, vouchers or tax credits for attending faith-based or other non-public schools, or the option of home schooling.” The Heritage Foundation states “School Choice is the First Casualty of Obama Education Overhaul.” When you vote in the next Republican primary, look for a candidate who will vote according to the Republican platform and NOT with the Obama agenda. Several of The Spartanburg Six sent the exact same email in answer to frustrated voters, “I did not support H.3407 because of its fiscal impact …” and they used an approximate $64M cost to support their no vote. They neglected to mention the report they are quoting from shows a $66M SAVINGS, for a net savings to taxpayers of $2M from the school choice bill they defeated. Their fiscal argument, which they hoped you would accept, fails when the facts are examined. Well, perhaps it WAS about the money. With several of The Spartanburg Six taking campaign contributions from the South Carolina Education Association (SCEA) and the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA), it becomes clear who they are getting their direction from … it is not the families like yours who want the freedom to choose to educate your child by using your own tax-exempt dollars. So, if you think a parent knows better than a Columbia politician what is the best educational opportunity for their child, join us in handing out voter awareness flyers to the primary voters in Spartanburg county. We need to cover about 3,000 houses each weekend for the next three weekends. If you can help this weekend, be at the empty drugstore parking lot at 101 Locust Street, Lyman, SC at 8:30 A.M. on Saturday June 11. We’ll team up and head out from there. If you can help, please R.S.V.P to Karen Martin at info@spartanburgteaparty.org. Remember, the taxpayer funded establishment lobbyist won’t stop working against us, so we can’t let up now!
