The Battle Ahead As we close 2011 and look at our challenges and successes we must become even more vigilant in the cause of restoring constitutional restraint of government. I challenge everyone to remember that our form of government was created to protect liberty; that is all, nothing more, nothing less. Throughout 2011 I have networked with many conservatives throughout South Carolina and several other States. We have worked together to identify good and bad legislation as well as the legislators. We have agreed to work together to replace the worst legislators in South Carolina. While South Carolina has a majority of “Republicans” in both the House and Senate, we do not have a majority of Conservatives. The entire Legislature is up for re-election in 2012 and it is our job as citizens of South Carolina to replace as many RINOs as possible. The State Senate is made up of 46 Senators. If time, money and other resources were unlimited, I would replace most of them. However, as with anything else, we must prioritize our work and battle the worst and the most vulnerable. RINO Hunt posted a list of five State Senators that fall into this category. I am happy to report that we have credible challengers for four of them at this time. Senator Mike Fair of Greenville County was first elected in 1984 to the SC House and then to the Senate in 1995. While few could argue that Mr. Fair was once a true conservative. However, after 27 years in Columbia he has become evasive of conservative principles. In fact, even Mr. Fair must believe he is getting close to retirement because he has been drawing his retirement (three times his normal pay) for several years now. Senator Larry Martin of Pickens County was first elected in 1979 to the SC House and then to the Senate in 1993. Again, Mr. Martin started out as a conservative in Columbia but 32 years in Columbia has a way of changing a person’s tenacity and convictions. Senator Larry Martin is also collecting his retirement pay while still making sweetheart deals; on our behalf of course. Senator David Thomas of Greenville County was first elected in 1985 to the SC Senate. Mr. Thomas has made a 180 degree turn from his strong conservative stand when he started. Mr. Thomas is also collecting his triple dipping retirement while trying to maintain a conservative stand on issues affecting our families. 26 years in Columbia certainly has made a difference in our lives and in Mr. Thomas’. Senator Luke Rankin of Horry County was first elected in 1993 to the SC Senate. Mr. Rankin has been a legislator for 18 years, not quite enough time to earn his retirement pay. However, he has been there long enough to violate conservative principles and the Party platform with careless regard for the consequences of legislation he supported. Senator Jake Knotts of Lexington County was first elected in 1995 to the SC House and then in 2002 to the SC Senate. Mr. Knotts is known for his rude behavior including racial slurs made toward then Candidate Nikki Haley. Although Mr. Knotts may be the “Boss” of the Senate, he still reports to the voters and it is time for him to get a pink slip. To see a complete list of SC Legislators that are receiving retirement pay while still making laws visit Triple Dippers. Anyone can argue that there are more and in some case worse Senators than those listed above. I do not argue the fact, but these Senators pose the easiest targets for replacement. These Senators make up the leading support for the woefully inept leadership in the South Carolina Senate. I would make a case that we would not have RINO leadership like Senate President Glenn McConnell, Senate Majority Leader John Land or Senate Finance Chairman Huge Leatherman if it were not for the fact they have the unwavering support of the RINOs listed above. If we take away their support structure they lose control and power. RINO Hunt is committed to making South Carolina the Freest State in the Nation. Liberty is the freedom to succeed or fail without government intervention. The Constitution limits the power of government. Politicians take an oath of office to Preserve, Protect and Defend the Constitution. They do not take an oath to create jobs or manage the economy. If you would like to live in the Freest State in the Nation join RINO Hunt and attend our monthly meetings. It is there you will receive the knowledge and plans to carry out our forefather’s vision and defend what generations have protected. Our next monthly meeting in Greenville will be on January 20, 2012 at Denny’s Restaurant on Wade Hampton Blvd. starting at 6:00 PM. Also plan to attend the Horry County RINO Hunt meeting on January 28, 2012 at Veteran’s Café & Grill located at 1144 Shine Ave. Myrtle Beach, SC. This meeting will start at 1:00 PM. RINO Hunt will publish a list of SC House members in the near future. Please visit www.rinohunt.net and join a truly conservative organization that is working to resist socialism, rebuild conservative government and restore our Constitution. Please send this newsletter to your friends and family to help spread the word. RINO season 2012 is here. Restructuring: Lots of Talk, Little Action December 15, 2011October 16, 2012 “Restructuring” might have been the buzzword of this year’s legislative session, but in the end, there was a whole lot of talk – and even an emergency S.C. Supreme Court ruling – with no concrete results. Take the State Agency Restructuring Study Committee, for example. The 12-member legislative committee was… Read More
The Columbia two step December 7, 2011December 7, 2011 The tap dancing has begun! The Palmetto Liberty Score Cards have only been out for a few days and already legislators are trying to “explain” their bad votes. Not unexpected, right? So, I have to tell you about Senator Knotts’ “explanation” about his vote for the retroactive tax incentive, S533,… Read More
Will Sunshine die of inaction in the SC Senate? May 16, 2012 There are only two more weeks left before our state Legislature goes home for the year! If the South Carolina Senate doesn’t pass H3235, the Freedom of Information Act Sunshine bill, by then we’ll have to start all over again in January from square one! They will continue to legally… Read More
