Cagney and Lacey in the SC Senate? Talbert Black, January 24, 2012 Deedee Vaughters and Katrina Shealy are running for state senate. Which one is Cagney and which one is Lacey? I don’t know, I never watched the show, but it brings to my mind an image of two ladies bustin’ down the door and kicking some butts. The point is these two ladies will shake up the Senate by providing support (and maybe some inspiration) to our current small band of reformers in the state Senate. Imagine if you will, two ladies busting into the South Carolina Senate and on the first day kicking tail and taking names! That is what is going to happen next January when Deedee Vaughters and Katrina Shealy walk onto the floor and take their seats as Senator Vaughters and Senator Shealy. They already are on a good personal relationship with each other, often seen together as they campaign for freedom and liberty in the Palmetto State. Their districts are right next to each other. They will be the dynamic duo of the Senate. When the withering attacks come from leadership… and they will… these two ladies will watch each other’s backs and lend each other strength. They won’t allow one another to be pushed around. Makes me think of Charlie’s Angels… Batman and Robin even. This is going to be good! Katrina Shealy is running against Jake Knotts for Senate district 23. He scored 24% on the Palmetto Liberty Score Card. He fought against requiring the Senate to record how the vote on every piece of legislation they pass calling it an “insult to this body”. Katrina will support: your right to keep and bear arms; restoring the free market to our state by ending the state government’s control of our economy through $1 billion annually in economic incentives that are handed out; full parental choice in educating our children; eliminating property taxes on owner occupied homes; eliminating the budget and control board. Check out her website at http://katrinashealy.com/. Deedee has served as vice chairman of the South Carolina Policy Council and has a long history of grassroots activism. She is running against Nikki Setzler for Senate district 26. Setzler scored 19% on the Palmetto Liberty Score Card. His voting record shows that he is not the conservative he advertises himself to be. He voted for the I-95 Corridor Authority, voted for virtually every corporate welfare deals, against refunding excess tax collections to the taxpayer, and more. I have previously written about Deedee a couple of times in the past when she earned our endorsement. You can read why we endorsed her here. She will be one of the super stars in the Senate when elected. Just as Tom Davis has bucked the system and stood up to the leadership without fear, I expect Deedee will do the same. Check out her website at http://www.deedeeforsenate.com/. Together, she and Katrina will be a force to be reckoned with. Our reformers in the Senate need these two ladies to join them in the good fight. I look forward to the pending full retirement of Jake Knotts and Nikki Setzler.
