Common Core coming Talbert Black, March 29, 2012 More out-of-state regulation. Less control of our own destiny. Less parental influence and control. That is how the Common Core State Standards will change South Carolina’s public education. More teaching to “the test.” Less education. More Bureaucracy. These things will improve neither your child’s education nor his opportunities for success. S604 will block implementation of the Common Core Standards. If you dream of an education personalized for your child’s unique way of learning, one that is thoughtfully applied from teacher to student, then contact State Senator John Courson, Chairman of the Senate Education Committee, at (803) 212-6250 and SEduComm@scsenate.gov and tell him to support S604. Then, contact your own State Senator and tell him to support S604. You can find your State Senator and his contact information at this link. S604 is a simple bill that prevents implementation of the one-size-fits-all, teach-to-the-test Common Core State Standards. The bottom line is this: Each school and each teacher, in partnership with parents, should be free to determine the course of study that best fits the needs of their students. They should not be forced to follow a “Common Core” that by its very name refutes the individual nature of study and learning. No two students learn in exactly the same way. Parents of multiple children know this; teachers know this. The Common Core is a one-size-fits-all recipe for disaster for 50 states and millions of school children. Fortunately, Common Core is not a mandated standard. South Carolina is not required to adopt it. So contact your State Senator and tell him to block our state education bureaucracy from binding our children to the Common Core. South Carolina needs to wipe out bureaucracy between teacher, parent, and student so that real, individual teaching and learning can take place. Contact your Senator and the Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee. Tell them to support S604 to block acceptance of the “Common Core State Standards.” Action Alerts Education Senate

The Budget and Control Board must go! June 2, 2011June 18, 2011 Friends of South Carolina, I have not said much about the Department of Administration bill before today. I had hoped it would silently die. Why? It doesn’t eliminate the Budget and Control Board! It creates a new department without eliminating the one everyone thinks it will replace. One Senator calls… Read More
