2012 Palmetto Liberty Score Cards Talbert Black, October 16, 2012October 16, 2012 Palmetto Liberty PAC just released the 2012 South Carolina House and Senate score cards! You can see them at http://www.palmettoliberty.com/voting-records. Palmetto Liberty is working to make South Carolina the most free state in the nation. What does it mean to be the most free state in the nation? It means having both the lowest taxes in the nation and the safest streets. It means having access to quality through competition and consumer choice in health care and education. It means politicians act like public servants, not central planners. It means our universities teach people to think. It means our citizens own property and bear arms without fear that anyone will infringe on their right to either. In order to have the most free state in the nation we must balance power between the three branches of state government so that no branch, alone or together with other branches, has more power than the people. We must protect the free market from the interference of preferences that are handed out to the well connected by government bodies. We can never hope to control our own destiny as a state when 40% of our state budget is paid through the federal government. Not only does it bind our state’s financial destiny to the whims of federal spending, it also ties our hands with the strings the come attached to that money. We must wean the state government from its habitual dependency on “federal” dollars. The purpose of this voting analysis is to identify those who oppose these ideas with their votes. No longer can we elect any old Republican to the General Assembly. Their rhetoric and publicity may be conservative, but too many of these Republicans are voting to sustain a liberal agenda. It shows all too clearly in their record. Most of the votes shown on the score card are votes that we lost. Now we can identify the Legislators that caused us to lose these votes. These Legislators are the ones who need to be replaced if we are to achieve the vision of having the most free state in the nation.
